One of the biggest matches of the IPL 2024 is set to unfold at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After losing Qualifier 1 against Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Rajasthan Royals who defeated RCB in their last match and qualified to play Qualifier 2. The match is important as the winner will lock horns with KKR in the IPL 2024 final. Former Kiwi player Mitchell McClenaghan thinks RR spinner R Ashwin will be crucial in putting pressure on SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma during Qualifier 2.
RR to Face SRH in the Qualifier 2:
The cricket fans of India are all set to experience another thrilling showdown. The second qualifier match is all set to arrange a face-off between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals. After losing the match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1, Sunrisers will face RR to qualify for the playoffs. Throughout the tournament, Pat Cummins and Co. dominated the opponent and the next time, they will try the same. Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Klaasen will strengthen up the batting lineup. On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pat Cummins, and the other bowlers are ready to challenge the opponent.
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals gave a dazzling start to their IPL 2024 journey. They were winning consecutive matches. But in the second half of the tournament, they faced some setbacks. Despite those, they entered into the playoffs and met RCB in the eliminator game. In that match, they outplayed RCB and qualified to play Qualifier 2. Before the match, they are ready with their prime lineup.
Mitchell McClenaghan on Ravichandran Ashwin:
Despite a slow start in IPL 2024, Ravichandran Ashwin made an impressive comeback with his best performance of the season, taking 2/19 in the eliminator against RCB. This stellar performance has boosted the hopes of his RR teammates and fans, who are now eagerly anticipating a similar show from the veteran spinner against SRH.
While talking about Ashwins importance in a big match like Qualifier 2, Mitchell McClenaghan said, “Tactically, it worked, didn’t it? He (Ashwin) kept them (RCB) quiet. Look, he is smart. He was smart against RCB. He knows how to bowl defensively, and that’s what Rajasthan will be hoping he can do in the powerplay.”
Later he added, “You’ve got to keep Travis Head quiet, you’ve got to keep Abhishek quiet. Because the longer you keep them quiet, it obviously means they don’t get runs, but it also keeps the pressure gauge rising, and you know there is gonna be an explosion. And quite often, if you build that pressure enough, it will go your way and get you a wicket. So he (Ashwin) is key to building that pressure in the powerplay.”
