Sourav Ganguly backs Rohit Sharma for the Australia Test series

India had a terrific start to the ODI series against Windies where the hosts decimated the visitors in the first ODI. The Men in Blue chased down the target of 323 with 43 balls in hand on the back of centuries from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The duo was brilliant in Guwahati and both matched each other shot for shot.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was highly impressed by the performance of the hosts. He hailed the Indian efforts and believes the home side will win the series as well. “It was a fantastic performance. It never felt as if they are under pressure of a stiff target. They easily won the match and I strongly believe they will seal the series too,” Ganguly told India TV.

Rohit Sharma should be taken to Australia Tests, reckons Dada

Ganguly is confident that Rohit Sharma is now ready for Test cricket. He reckons that the Indian opener has matured a lot in the recent times and has shown his skills as a captain as well. Rohit doesn’t have an impressive Test record in whatever opportunities he has got so far yet the former southpaw believes Rohit should be given another go.

“He (Rohit) has gained confidence in his game with time. In captaincy too, he has proved his mettle. This is the time for the selectors to take Rohit along on the Australian tour for the Test series. He has matured a lot in last two years,” said Ganguly.

Talking about the Indian captain Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly said anything is possible for the right-hander. He believes Kohli is like a diamond and makes batting look easy each time with his presence.

“Virat Kohli is a great player. Anything is possible for him. In 80s we had Gavaskar, then Sachin came and now we have Virat Kohli. With his impressive strokeplay, he also inspires other batsmen. Kohli is like a diamond in the team. He makes batting look so easy when he comes at the crease,” added the 46-year-old.
