South Africa Secures the Semi-Final Spot as the Rain Alters the New Zealand vs. Pakistan Clash

The ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 has been more exciting in the past few matches. This is a stage where everyone is trying hard to be in the top 4. Some teams have the potential to be the best. India is the host of the tournament. They are the only unbeaten team in the tournament till now. They won all the seven matches. Because of this exceptional performance, they were the first to qualify for the semifinals. Now the second team in the top 4 is South Africa.

South Africa into the Semifinals:

South Africa is a big competitor in the tournament. Out of seven matches, they won six and faced the only defeat against the Netherlands. They started the tournament with a bang. In their very first match, South Africa made a record. They registered the highest World Cup total. The team is in excellent form.  All the players dominate the opponents almost in every match.

They will be qualifying for the semis, that was known but that thing happened pretty early.  There were two scenarios for South Africa to qualify for the semifinals. The first one was, that they had to win their two remaining matches. The second one was if they lost the remaining two matches and had a better run rate than others. Then they will be the second semi-finalist.

The second thing happened today. Today, New Zealand and Pakistan locked horns at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This match was a kind of decider. If New Zealand wins the match then Pakistan and two other times will be disqualified. But a twist happened. The rain interrupted the game. Then after applying the DLS method, Pakistan won the match. That was a crucial game. Their win helped South Africa to qualify for the semi-finals a little ahead.  They joined India on the list.

On November 5, the two semifinalists will be locking horns at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. That will be an interesting clash. India is still unbeaten and South Africa will be trying to dominate them. With this win, Pakistan’s top 4 hope is still alive. It is complicated but not impossible. If they want to see themselves in that spot, they need to beat England by a big margin. Along with that, Sri Lanka has to beat New Zealand and Afghanistan has to lose one game and their net run rate should be low. There is a lot of calculation left for Pakistan.
