Team India and England are locking horns with each other in a five-match Test series. The first Test match of the series went in England’s favor. Even after dominating the visitors, Team India faced a defeat of 28 runs and England took the lead in the series. In the final innings, Tom Hartley single-handedly dominated Team India and turned the match their way. After winning the match, the English bowler opened up about his feelings.
Tom Hartley’s Excellent Spell:
In the first Test, Tom Hartley was amazing and a real match-winner for the England team. In the second innings, his magical spell dominated the Indian batters. His unbelievable spell changed the game. During his Test debut, English spinner Tom Hartley faced criticism after conceding 131 runs in just 25 overs in the first innings against India in Hyderabad.
Undeterred, Hartley made adjustments to his bowling technique. In a remarkable turnaround, Hartley claimed 7 wickets for 62 runs in the second innings, playing a crucial role in England’s sensational comeback victory. Despite trailing by 190 runs after the initial innings, England triumphed by 28 runs, securing a 1-0 series lead. Hartley’s resilience and impactful performance turned the tables, silencing the initial trolls and earning him praise for his match-winning contribution.
Harley’s Words:
Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal hit him for a four on his very first delivery in Test cricket. Reflecting on that moment, the cricketer remarked that he was unfazed by it, as facing aggressive batters was nothing new to him. He said, “He’s not the first, and he won’t be the last! As a spinner, people are going to come after you. I’m fine with it if people want to come after me. I sort of have to go into a different mindset. You look back at the ball and you think it wasn’t a bad ball. If that’s the way they want to play, you’ve just got to play with it.”
Hartley’s impressive seven-wicket haul in the second innings has boosted his confidence for the remaining four matches against India. He anticipates a more significant role from team management and expressed readiness for upcoming challenges. Hartley mentioned tweaking his bowling action, slowing down his approach in the second innings.
He said, “When you’re playing for the first time you just run up that bit quick. And you think, well, just slow things down, let your action do the work. When I run in quick, I just tend to lose my action a bit. I just slowed it down and kept it simple, and it seemed to work.”
