SRH vs RR IPL 2019: SRH got home and achieved the first win of the season

Sunrisers Hyderabad hosted Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the 8th game of IPL 2019. It was another high scoring encounter and indeed a close one. Both sides played brilliant cricket and ultimately, the hosts got past the line.

Ajinkya Rahane walked out to bat alongside Jos Buttler after winning the toss. All the focus was on Buttler who was deemed to be unlucky in the last game as Ravichandran Ashwin mankaded him when he was batting well. In this game, he failed to make a similar impact. Kane Williamson played a masterstroke by bringing in Rashid Khan in the 3rd over who castled Buttler for 5.

When the big overseas threat was removed, it was time for 2 classy Indian batsmen to take centre stage. Rahane and Sanju Samson carried the innings forward after a slow start. After the powerplay, the score reached 35/1. Samson then came into the act and upped the ante. The RR captain too played some delightful strokes they took the score to 101 after 12 overs.

Rahane brought up his fifty in the 13th over and an over later, Samson also brought up the landmark. With 5 overs remaining, they had 122 runs on the board. The perfect launch pad was ready for the death overs. They began to target the bowlers. But Rahane held out to Shahbaz Nadeem for 70 from 49 balls.

Samson was joined by Ben Stokes but during the slog overs, it was the Samson show. The last 3 overs went for 24, 13 and 21 respectively. Samson went absolutely nuts as he brought up his second IPL century. He remained unbeaten for 102 from 55 balls as RR ended with a massive score of 198/2.
When SRH openers came out with a mountain to climb, David Warner was determined to hog the limelight. He needed n sighters and went after the bowlers from ball one. Jonny Bairstow was a mere spectator as Warner stole the show. The scores from first 6 overs read 14, 11, 9, 3, 17 and 15.

The score raced off to 69 after 6 overs as Warner was already past his half-century. Even after the end of the powerplay, there was no stopping the left-hander. SRH brought up 100 runs in just the 9th over. When Bairstow got the chance, he too showed his class. Ben Stokes finally provided RR the much-needed breakthrough when he got him out caught off a bouncer for 69 from 37 balls.

Soon after, Shreyas Gopal removed Bairstow for 45 in the 11th over. The skipper Kane and Vijay Shankar came together when 82 runs were required from 54 balls. Williamson batted in his usual demeanor while Vijay Shankar took toll of the poor balls. Warner’s early striking had made life easier for the batsmen to come.
Shankar struck some lusty blow that didn’t let the pressure mount. It came down to 46 from the last 6 overs. Against the run of play, Williamson fell for 14 off the bowling of Jaydev Unadkat. Manish Pandey joined Shankar in the middle but the latter left him soon for 35.
