Sri Lanka is travelling to Bangladesh for a T20 and an ODI series. Sri Lanka won the T20 series by a 2-1 margin. They have shown amazing prowess in the series. But after sealing the win in the third T20 match, their sepecial celebration caught the attention. Their ‘Timed Out’ celebration went viral on internet.
The ‘Timed Out’ Celebration:
In the World Cup 2023, Angelo Matthews’ ‘Timed Out’ dismissal against Bangladesh was one of the rarest moments. In the group stage match, when Angelo Mathews came to bat, there was a problem with his helmet and he didn’t face the ball on time referring to the ICC’s rule. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan asked to talk with umpire and Matthews was given out.
After securing victory in the T20I series against Bangladesh, Sri Lankan players responded in style, adding another chapter to the ongoing banter between the two teams. The animosity dates back to the ICC World Cup 2023, where Angelo Mathews faced an unusual ‘timed out’ dismissal in a match against Bangladesh. Fast forward to the three-match T20I series, and the players renewed their on-field banter.
In a twist of events, during the first game, Bangladesh’s Shoriful mimicked Mathews’ ‘timed out’ celebration after dismissing Sri Lanka’s opener Avishka Fernando on the second delivery. The Sri Lankan players, not ones to let things slide, retaliated cheekily. After clinching the series, the entire team engaged in the timed-out celebration, playfully teasing their Bangladeshi counterparts. This exchange adds a touch of humor and rivalry to the cricketing arena, turning moments of contention into amusing theatrics on the field.
Sri Lanka’s Exciting Third T20 Win:
Opener Kusal Mendis played a superb innings, scoring 86, while pacer Nuwan Thushara achieved a career-best 5-20, including a hat trick. Sri Lanka secured a 28-run victory over Bangladesh in the final T20, clinching the series 2-1. The first match saw Sri Lanka winning by three runs, but Bangladesh leveled with an eight-wicket victory. Mendis’ impressive 55-ball knock, featuring six fours and as many sixes, powered the team to a total of 174-6. In the same game, Thushara, making his series debut, displayed exceptional swing bowling skills, dismantling the top order.
Rishad Hossain’s explosive 30-ball 53, featuring seven sixes, helped Bangladesh recover from 32-6, posting 146 all out in 19.4 overs. Thushara, filling in for the injured Matheesha Pathirana, took a remarkable four wickets in two overs, including a hat trick.
