SunRisers Hyderabad Secures Playoff Spot in IPL 2024 After Washout Match Against Gujarat Titans

The rain and Gujarat Titans made a different bonding in this IPL season. After washing out the last game, today’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad has also been called off. That must be unpleasant for Gujarat Titans as their last match of the IPL 2024 has been called off. But that becomes a blessing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. After Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad qualified into the top 4.

Sunrisers Hyderabad  Reached in Top 4:

On May 16, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans were scheduled to play at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The match ended in a washout, earning each team a point. Before the match, Hyderabad had 14 points from 12 games, but after the washout, they now have 15 points from 13 matches. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans concluded their IPL 2024 campaign with 12 points.

As a result of the washout, SRH temporarily holds the third spot in the standings. However, their position could change if Chennai Super Kings secure a win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The unpredictability extends to the CSK vs RCB match, which might also face weather interruptions. SunRisers Hyderabad joins Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals as the third team to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs.

This season marks a significant turnaround for SunRisers, as they secure a playoff spot for the first time since the 2020 season. In the previous three seasons, they had a tough run, in 2021, 2022, and 2023, respectively. Their resurgence demonstrates their determination and improvement over the years, signaling a promising future for the franchise.

A Slim Chance to Finish on Top 2:

Pat Cummins’s team is gearing up to host Punjab on May 19, with a chance to secure a top-two finish and face KKR in Qualifier 1. SunRisers’ qualification dashed the playoff hopes of Delhi and Lucknow, adding excitement to the upcoming RCB vs CSK clash in Bengaluru. The top-two finish will hinge on the outcome of the RR vs KKR match in Guwahati, regardless of SRH’s result against PBKS.

On the flip side, Gujarat Titans had a disappointing season. They were the winner of the IPL 2022 and the runner-up of the IPL 2023, ending the season in the eighth position. They lost their last two opportunities to be in the playoff race as their last two matches washed out due to rain. They are aiming for a great comeback in the upcoming season.
