Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has stated his doubts regarding Pakistan’s openers, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The former India cricketer welcomed Pakistan’s decision to give Babar the No.3 position in its previous game against Canada.

“I’m glad they have made a change in the batting order. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan can’t be opening together. Both of them were not really keen to strike early, so they put somebody else in at the top.” Manjrekar said to Star Sports

“Left-hand, right-hand combination is not such a bad thing. So some good things happening there,” he added.

Ramiz Raja supports Babar and Rizwan as openers

Babar and Rizwan, two of the best batters on Pakistan’s current roster, have opened for the Green Army in two World Cup games.

Both the batsmen have garnered backing from former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Ramiz Raja, who believes the premier batsmen should lead the top order of the 2009 champions.

According to Ramiz, openers Rizwan and Babar don’t have the same strike rates as Kohli and Rohit. However, Pakistan’s batsmen provide consistency by getting their team off to a strong start in the powerplay. Interestingly, Pakistan’s only victory in the T20 World Cup came after Babar was dropped to No.3.
