South African bowler Tabraiz Shamsi recently pointed out a striking similarity between his T20I statistics and those of Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, both sharing identical records.
Shamsi and Bumrah’s T20I Statistics Coincide Perfectly
In an interesting turn of events, South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi revealed a surprising similarity between his T20 International (T20I) statistics and those of India’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah.
On social media, Shamsi highlighted that both players have appeared in 70 T20I matches, bowled 1,509 balls, and claimed 89 wickets each.
“Fun fact… Jasprit Bumrah and I have played the exact same amount of T20 international games. Bowled the exact same number of balls in those games and taken the exact same amount of wickets! Such a crazy coincidence”
Though they have played the same number of matches, the two bowlers differ slightly in their innings played.
Bumrah has bowled in 69 innings, while Shamsi has bowled in 70.
Despite these minor differences, the coincidence of their statistics caught the attention of fans worldwide.
Comparing Their T20I Records: Bumrah vs Shamsi
Jasprit Bumrah, known for his precision and calm demeanour under pressure, has an economy rate of 6.27 runs per over in T20Is.
This stat reflects his ability to control the game in the shortest format. Shamsi, a left-arm wrist spinner, has a slightly higher economy rate of 7.39 but has taken a five-wicket haul in T20Is, something Bumrah has yet to achieve in this format.

Their bowling styles also contrast—Bumrah is a pacer who relies on yorkers and slower balls to deceive batsmen, while Shamsi uses spin and flight to outwit opponents.
Despite the differences in their approaches, the statistical similarity between the two is undeniable.
Their Current Roles and Future Prospect
While neither Shamsi nor Bumrah participated in the recent T20I series between India and South Africa, both remain integral parts of their respective teams.
Bumrah is currently training with India’s Test squad in Australia, preparing for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
On the other hand, Shamsi continues to be a key figure in South Africa’s limited-overs teams.
The similarities in their statistics serve as a reminder of how consistency and perseverance in cricket can lead to remarkable parallels between players, regardless of their different roles in the game.
