Tamim Iqbal has opted out of Bangladesh‘s upcoming tour of India due to “personal reasons”. Imrul Kayes has been called up to fill in his place in the team for the three T20Is.
Tamim to miss T20I in India
Tamim after missing Bangladesh’s home Test against Afghanistan and the T20I tri-series as part of a small break returned this month in a first-class match for Chittagong Division in the National Cricket League. He then went on to pick up a rib injury ahead of the second game but was named for T20I series in India. Now he reportedly sent a request to the BCB asking for removal from the upcoming India series.
According to the reports, Tamim’s wife is expecting their second child later this month and the right-handed batsman wants to be with his time during this period. The chief selector Minhajul Abedin said, “Tamim had informed us earlier that he would miss the second Test in Kolkata but now he will be with his wife for the coming weeks. Imrul has already started training with us as Tamim’s replacement.”
Tamim becomes the second player to miss out on the India tour after the all-rounder, Mohammad Saifuddin was ruled out with a back injury. No replacement has been named for the all-rounder yet. One of the most experienced players of the squad is one of 14 players to have a century in all three international formats for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is scheduled to play the three T20Is against India from November 3, Sunday. The two-match Test series will be played as part of the ICC World Test Championship which starts on November 14, Thursday.
