Another day of the T20 World Cup 2024 is spreading excitement with another thrilling match. In the fifth match of the tournament, Afghanistan is facing Uganda at the Providence Stadium. The match was exceptional because Afghanistan showcased its amazing dominance. After dominating the opponents with the bat, the Afghan bowlers outplayed Uganda with their excellence. But among all, Fazalhaq Farooqi’s five-wicket haul caught the attention. It also registered as the first fifer of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Farooqi’s Exceptional Five-wicket Haul:
Afghanistan appeared in their inaugural match of the T20 World Cup with a win in the warm-up games. They faced Uganda in the match. The Providence Stadium witnessed some outstanding cricket magic by the Afghan side. Especially, in the second innings, Afghanistan showcased their class, and Fazalhaq Farooqi showcased their excellence.
While bowling in the second innings, Fazalhaq Farooqi opened the bowling attack for Afghanistan. And the magic started from the beginning, Farooqi dismissed Ronak Patel in the second delivery of the first over. Farooqi delivered an excellent inswinger and that ended up hitting the leg stump. That delivery sent Patel back.
The next wicket on the very next ball. Farooqi dismissed Roger Mukasa with an exceptional LBW. For the third wicket, Farooqi waited a little long. He bowled an off-cutter with a length on the stumps. Riazat Ali Shah was on strike but the ball hit the stump and Farooqi registered his third one.
After that, he picked up Brian Masaba and Robinson Obuya and registered his five-wicket haul on the big stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. Along with that, that spell registered as the first five-wicket haul of the T20 World Cup. The entire cricket fraternity witnessed an excellent spell on the big stage.
Uganda’s Struggle:
In the fifth match of the T20 World Cup, Afghanistan faced Uganda. After winning the toss, Uganda won the toss and opted to bowl first. While bowling in the first innings, they had to wait for the 15th over to get the first breakthrough of the day. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran were making an impactful partnership. Brian Masaba dismissed Zadran in the 15th over when he was on 70 runs. In the next over, Alpesh Ramjani dismissed Gurbaz. After that, Cosmos Kyewuta dismissed Gulabdin Naib and Azmatullah Omarzai.
Afghanistan set a target of 184 runs in front of Uganda. While chasing the target, Uganda struggled from the beginning. Their entire batting lineup shattered in front of the Afghan brilliance. Fazalhaq Farooqi single-handedly dominated the opponent by registering an excellent fifer. Naveen ul Haq and Rasid Khan secured 2 wickets each. Uganda was all out in 58 runs and faced a huge defeat of 125 runs.
