Getting selected into the 15-member team India squad for the T20 World Cup was probably the highlight of Shivam Dube‘s year. The CSK batsman had truly deserved it as he had not failed to show his brilliant performance in the start of the IPL 2024 series.
However, over the next five days, Dube has been seen getting back-to-back golden ducks for Chennai Super Kings, leaving the fans worried. Fans have gone as far as to give the left-hander a ‘Rinku Singh’ warning.
BCCI selection curse hit Shivam?
There is an ongoing conspiracy amongst Indian cricket fans who joke that BCCI, the regulatory and administrative body for Cricket in India has a curse. Since the board is also in the committee for selection of players of international series, there have been many instances where the selected candidates have underperformed right after they have been drafted into a squad.
Fans speculate that Dube’s current downfall might also be because of this alleged ‘curse’. After being selected to play in the middle order for team India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, Shivam Dube has had 2 golden ducks, both in different PBKS matches. He was undone by Harpreet Brar on May 1 in Chepauk and by Rahul Chahar on Sunday at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
Fans have not been happy after Dube’s recent performance and have jokingly threatened him with Rinku Singh’s name. Rinku, who plays in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders is a star player who plays in the middle order. However, Rinku has been kept as a substitute for the T20WC team alongside Shubman Gill and others.
Here’s What Rohit Sharma said after selecting Dube
India captain Rohit Sharma almost gave a big hint at Dube’s selection in the playing XI for India at the World Cup, Rohit says that his selection in the team is purely based on his power-hitting, although he also expects the CSK star to bowl for a few overs.
“We needed someone to come in middle overs and play that role. We picked Shivam Dube based on what he has done in IPL and a few games he played before IPL,” he said in a press conference held at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Thursday. “I will be expecting if we need Shivam to ball a few overs, he will. Same with Hardik, he has come and bowled whenever needed. All-rounders must do that whatever their role is.” said Rohit
