The Best Captain I’ve Played Under Is Kumble: Gautam Gambhir

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that Anil Kumble was the best among the different captains he played under. The opener told Star Sports that Kumble had the ability to break a lot of records as skipper.

Kumble gets Gambhir’s vote

During his international cricket career of 13 years, Gambhir played under a lot of captains like Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Virat Kohli. Among all these leaders, he found Kumble the best and most effective one. He believes that with more time span in hand as a leader, Kumble would have broken a number of records.

During his session with Star Sports, he told that Dhoni obviously is the best in terms of records but to him, the best would be Kumble as per his experience. He said, “Yes, MS Dhoni in terms of records is right up there but yes, for me the best captain I’ve played under is Kumble”. Kumble was given the responsibility to lead India in the latter half of his career and he took over the Test captaincy from Dravid in 2007. Alongside Dhoni was chosen as the captain of other two formats in the limited-overs cricket.

Gambhir gives credit to Ganguly too

Gambhir who took retirement in 2018, started his career under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. In the conversation, he did give the due credit to Ganguly but did not forget to mention about the ability of Kumble. “Sourav has done really well. One captain that I would have definitely wanted to captain India for a long time is Kumble. I played six Test matches under him probably; he didn’t captain India for that long.”
