“The plan was to execute what I did in practice and I executed:” Moshin Khan after his match winning performance against MI

Lucknow Super Giants prevailed in a last over thriller against the Mumbai Indians in their last home game at their home ground in the TATA IPL 2023. The hosts won the match by 5 runs. At the halfway point, the match was heading to towards Mumbai, but Moshin Khan exhibited a brilliant last over to help Lucknow win the match.

Home town hero Moshin defended 11 runs in the last over bowling hard lengths into the pitch mixed with lethal yorkers. Speaking at the post-match interview, Moshin talked about how he approached the last over.

Mohsin Khan expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating that he successfully executed his plans during the match. He had discussed his approach with Krunal, emphasizing the importance of implementing what he had practiced. Despite the pressure, he maintained the same run-up throughout the last over, displaying consistency in his technique.

“The plan was to execute what I did in practice and I executed. Even Krunal was talking to me and I told him the same. The run-up is the same, did not change it in the last over,” Moshin said.

Aware of the need to stay composed, he deliberately avoided looking at the scoreboard and focused on delivering six well-executed balls.

“I was trying to calm myself down, not look at the scoreboard and bowl the 6 balls well,” he added.

The pitch conditions played a significant role in his decision-making. With the wicket providing grip, Mohsin attempted two slower balls initially. However, after delivering those, he recognized the opportunity to exploit the reversing ball and swiftly shifted to bowling yorkers.

“Since the wicket was gripping, I tried the slower ball, but I bowled two of those and then changed to the yorker and it was reversing as well”.

It was a challenging time for him, having returned to the game after a year due to injury. Additionally, his father had just been discharged from the ICU after a ten-day hospital stay. Mohsin found immense motivation in knowing that his father would be watching, and he dedicated his performance to him.

“My father got discharged from the ICU yesterday and he was in the hospital for the last 10 days and I did it for him, he would have been watching,” the fast bowler added.

Expressing gratitude, Mohsin extended his appreciation to the team and the support staff. He acknowledged Gautam Gambhir and Vijay Dahiya, referring to them as “sir,” for giving him the opportunity to play in this particular game, despite his underwhelming performance in the previous match. Mohsin’s determination, execution of plans, and ability to perform under pressure showcased his resilience and commitment to the game, making his success all the more meaningful.
