Ahead of the T20 World Cup to be held next year in the Caribbean and US, India and South Africa have already begun preparing for the tournament with a month-long tour. Team India arrived in South Africa yesterday morning, all set to commence the tour. It includes a multi-format series, starting with 3-match T20I series, followed by a 3-match ODI series and then finally a 2-match Test series. Both the teams released their squad’s way before prior to two weeks of the present day. Both the teams have also rested their senior players after a hectic World Cup schedule.Â
Only 3 T20Is to play
While Temba Bavuma has been put to rest from South Africa, India’s Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will also skip the T20I and ODI series, and make a comeback in the Test series. South African Aiden Markram will lead the T20I and ODI series for the Proteas while India’s Suryakumar Yadav will lead in the T20I series with KL Rahul leading the ODI series.Â
Talking about South Africa deciding on its players for the marquee event of the upcoming World Cup, it will keep an eye on several players including that of senior ones to check their potential for the mega tournament. The Proteas have just 3 T20Is to play from now to the World Cup, and will look upon the upcoming T20I series against India, SA20 and IPL to shortlist their players for the tournament.
Eyeing Rossouw for the 2024 World Cup
South Africa Coach Rob Walter confirmed that doors are not closed for some senior players like that of Faf du Plessis and Rilee Rossouw for the World Cup. He stated that owing to some bowlers missing the tournament, the management can still consider featuring Rilee Rossouw for the mega tournament.Â
