Right now, team India is in South Africa for the much-anticipated India tour of South Africa. The tour is a month long where the two sides will face each other in three formats. While the series has been with the care for both teams’ preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup next year, all eyes are on the individual performances by each player so that it becomes easy to judge everyone before forming the squad for the tournament.
Among everyone, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s participation has been a debate since a very long time after the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup last month. People are excited to watch out whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be a part of the mega tournament. But to the relief of fans, Rohit Sharma is likely to lead the 2024 World Cup while Virat Kohli’s participation is still doubtful given that the tournament is in the shortest format of the game.
For Gambhir, form is quite important
Ahead of these speculations, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir reckoned that if both cricketers are uniform with their consistency, it is no doubt that the two should be picked for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Gambhir remarked “See, it all depends on the form. Ultimately, it’s the form. The good thing is it’s happening after the IPL. 100 percent. They should be part of the World Cup if they are in good form. For me, form is important. For a T20 World Cup, you want to take players who are in really good form. If Rohit and Virat are in good form, they should absolutely be picked for the World Cup.”
Defending Rohit after ending up as defending champions
Gautam Gambhir also remarked that one bad game doesn’t make Rohit Sharma a bad captain, as the nation knows he tried his best leading the team to the final knockout stage and fans should not criticize him. “Rohit has done a very, very good job. It’s not easy to win 5 IPL trophies. And then the way India dominated in the last 50-over World Cup… One bad game doesn’t make Rohit Sharma or this team a bad team and the way they dominated… I can still understand if you win tight games, the way they played… it’s not fair to say Rohit is a bad captain after just one bad game”, he stated.
