Punjab Kings lost an important match today, despite putting on a good fight. The team competed against Chennai Super Kings who defeated PBKS by 28 runs.
After winning the toss, Punjab King’s opted to bowl first. This resulted in CSK putting up a target score of 167 runs. PBKS would be required to score 168 runs in 20 overs, but they failed to do so as they took the whole innings to reach a score of 139 runs.
Sam Curran thinks PBKS bowled well
Addressing the audience at the after-match ceremony, PBKS captain Sam Curran said that the team bowled well. He also praised Rahul Chahar and Harshal for their bowling and thought that they had it when the 2nd innings of the match was halfway done.
“Thought we bowled really well. Rahul Chahar and Harshal bowled really well, was pretty happy at the halfway point but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The wicket was probably slower than we thought, we expected a little more pace and bounce, it was pretty similar throughout the game. Couple of days off and we go against RCB in a few days time so we need to move on and stay headstrong.”
PBKS loses points, set to face TVB next
With this loss, Punjab Kings have now come on the same level as Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans at 8 points. While PBKS may no longer have their fate in their own hands after this defeat, CSK have gone up to the third position on the points table.
PBKS will now face off against RCB in the next few days. While winning that match won’t change much for PBKS, RCB will definitely be one step closer to qualify for the playoffs. The two teams are supposed to have a match on 9 May at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
PBKS only team to not win 4 matches at home ground.
Punjab Kings might have disappointed their fans as they keep losing matches at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium which is also their home ground.
While PBKS won just 1 match in 2023 and 1 in 2024 until now at their home ground, rest of the team’s have went on to win more than 4 matches in both the seasons combined.
PBKS in home games
IPL 2023: 7 matches, 1 win, 6 defeats
IPL 2024: 6 matches, 1 win, 5 defeats
Every other team has won at least four matches at home across the two editions.
