MI Emirates has announced the inclusion of Tim David as their wildcard player for the upcoming 2024 season of the Indian League T20 (ILT20). David, who was part of the Mumbai Indians team in 2022 and the MI New York team that won the inaugural season of the Major League Cricket (MLC), will join his MI New York teammates Nicholas Pooran, Trent Boult, and Noshtush Kenjige. He will also be alongside Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, Muhammad Waseem, and Odean Smith, among others.
The wildcard feature in ILT20 allows franchises to add up to two additional players to their squad beyond the original limit of 22, and these players can join the league at any stage during the season.
MI Emirates is scheduled to start their campaign with an away game in Dubai on January 20.
In addition to the player announcement, MI Emirates has made changes to its coaching staff for the upcoming season. Robin Singh will take over as the Head Coach, with Ajay Jadeja joining as the batting coach and Mitchell McClenaghan as the bowling coach. Singh has been associated with the Mumbai Indians since 2010 and has played a key role in the team’s IPL victories and Champions League campaigns. McClenaghan, who made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2015, will transition from player to coach. Vinay Kumar will continue as the assistant coach, and James Franklin will continue as the fielding coach from the previous season.
These changes reflect MI Emirates’ strategic approach as they prepare for the upcoming ILT20 season, aiming to build a competitive squad and coaching staff to make an impact in the league.
