Tim Southee Reflects on Match-Winning Spell After Securing Player of the Match Award

The day was eventful for the T20 World Cup. In the second match of the day, New Zealand and Uganda faced each other in a thrilling encounter.  The start of the tournament was not desired for New Zealand. They are completely out of the Supe Eight race. But against Uganda, they bounced back remarkably. They defeated Uganda by 9 wickets and Tim Southee played a crucial role in that win. After his match-winning performance, was awarded the Player of the Match Award. After receiving this award, he reflected on his performance and their journey.

Southee’s Excellence and His Words:

The beginning of the T20 World Cup 2024 didn’t sit well for New Zealand. The Kiwis faced consecutive setbacks. Before facing Uganda, they were searching for their desired win. Against Uganda, they bounced back remarkably. The Kiwi bowlers thrived. Tim Southee shined exceptionally. He conceded 4 runs in 4 overs and secured 3 crucial wickets with an economy rate of 1.00. That spell helped them to restrict Uganda to just 40 runs.

That incredible spell secured the Player of the Match Award for Tim Southee. After that, Southee said, “It was a pretty clinical performance, was nice to get a win. It has been a bit tricky, just try to hit the stumps with variable bounce.”

On Their Disappointing Outings:

The Kiwis are known for their resilience. But they had a forgettable journey. After facing consecutive defeats, they went out of the Super Eight stage. That was disappointing for them. But they wanted to end the tournament on a positive note. They defeated Uganda by a 9-wicket win.

After the match ended, Southee reflected on their non-desired campaign. He said, “Disappointed to find ourselves out of the tournament. We were outplayed in the first two games, we have a proud record in World Cups and that has now come to an end. Had a nice break heading into this World Cup. Always a dream to play for NZ, still enjoying it.”
