According to individuals with knowledge of the situation, the highly anticipated white-ball series between India and Afghanistan is currently in doubt. Due to the short window of time between the World Test Championship final and a lengthy series in the Caribbean, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly having trouble organizing the three-match ODI series.
The initial schedule was for the three ODIs to be played between June 20 and June 30, after which the Indian team would sail for the Caribbean around July 7. However, with the Asia Cup schedule set to be confirmed in September, worries have surfaced concerning the players’ lack of rest before the World Cup, which would be their more significant task in October–November.
Although the BCCI executives did not give explicit justification for the reassessment, it is thought that there are additional considerations. Given that the new tender has not yet been released, the BCCI’s broadcast agreement with Disney Star coming to an end is one potential contributing factor. While an interim agreement may be possible, it is still unclear whether the board would negotiate a good deal before the full tender process for the bilateral series.
BCCI to chat with ACB
The BCCI invited Mirwais Ashraf, the president of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), to visit India for the IPL championship. In addition, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will convene in conjunction with the final on May 28. At this meeting, the two boards will have the chance to negotiate the planned brief bilateral series. Although a final decision has not been made, the prognosis now seems bleak barring a sudden change of heart.
Cricket supporters and interested parties are awaiting more information on the series between India and Afghanistan in the middle of these developments and are hoping for a solution that will allow for significant cricketing action between the two countries.
