Virat Kohli has a Different Aim. Hogg Explains

Brad Hogg believes Virat Kohli wants to focus more on batting because he is keen on breaking the record of 100 international centuries by Sachin Tendulkar. On his YouTube channel, Hogg spoke on the matter explaining what could be Kohli’s thought process.

What Hogg Thinks?

Virat Kohli leaving the T20I captaincy was expected at a certain level. But Virat Kohli also leaving the RCB captaincy after the IPL 2021, was mostly a shocker to many. Kohli himself said that he would like to focus more on his batting and experts and fans welcomed his decision. They believe that Kohli would again come back to his golden form when he would bat without any baggage. Brad Hogg alos agreed to the idea but he had a different take on it.

On his YouTube channel, Hogg opined, “He has stepped down from the international position of T20 captain and also Royal Challengers Bangalore. This is a bigger picture, where he is concentrating on the longer format of the game. He wants to lead India in Test cricket and ODIs. But there’s a record in his eyeline as well – trying to get that Tendulkar record of 100 international hundreds.”

Tally of Hundreds

He further added, “He’s well up there with Sachin in ODIs, having got 43 hundreds at the present moment. But he has only got 27 hundreds in Tests. Tendulkar got 51 hundreds in 200 games. I think Kohli wants to concentrate on Test cricket and match Tendulkar’s record of having 50 Test hundreds under his belt. He wants to become one of the greats as well. I think that’s where Kohli’s going.”
Currently Kohli has 70 international hundreds- 43 in ODIs and 27 in Tests. On the other hand. Tendulkar’s record reads 49 ODI hundreds and 51 Test centuries. While the limited-overs feat looks achievable for Kohli, the road to the Test numbers is far away.
