Virat Kohli’s Gloves from Iconic T20 World Cup Knock Sold for Charity

In a heartwarming gesture, the gloves donned by Virat Kohli during his remarkable unbeaten 82-run innings against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 were auctioned for a generous sum of approximately ₹3.2 lakh ($5,750) during the Chappell Foundation’s sixth annual dinner in Sydney. This charitable auction took place on September 13, 2023.

The Chappell Foundation, a non-profit organization co-founded by former India coach Greg Chappell and Australian businessman Darshak Mehta, focuses on raising funds to support homeless young individuals in Australia. The foundation is committed to providing shelter, care, education, training, and a brighter future for homeless youth in Australia.

Virat Kohli, known for his philanthropic efforts, generously donated his gloves to the foundation following his extraordinary performance at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The gloves attracted significant interest during the auction, with a spirited bidding contest eventually won by Harv Kler, who submitted the winning bid of $5,750.

Darshak Mehta, one of the foundation’s co-founders, commended the annual dinner as the most successful one in terms of fundraising. Since its inception in 2017, The Chappell Foundation has raised over $5 million. The event also saw the presence of former Australian cricketers, including Brett Lee, Michael Bevan, Peter Nevill, Phil Emery, Geoff Lawson, Greg Dyer, Trevor, and Ian Chappell.

Virat Kohli’s memorable innings against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup last year is etched in cricket history. Facing a challenging run-chase of 160 runs, Kohli stepped onto the field when India was struggling at 7/1. As wickets continued to fall, he partnered with Hardik Pandya to mount a remarkable recovery. In the end, it was Ravichandran Ashwin who scored the winning run for the Men in Blue.
