In a highly anticipated match of IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore faced off at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bat first. The opening partnership between skipper Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli gave RCB a solid start, with the latter going on to score 55 runs in 46 balls. Kohli’s innings included five fours but no sixes. 

The duo added 82 runs for the first wicket as RCB went on to score 181 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their designated 20 overs. Mahipal Lomror and Anuj Rawat’s finishing touches made sure RCB scored high in this crucial game.

The former RCB skipper has a special connection with the city as he started his cricketing journey from the Delhi cricket team before making it big on the international stage.

Virat Kohli’s journey with Delhi is well-documented in Indian cricketing circles. The 33-year-old cricketer started his cricketing journey in Delhi, playing for the Delhi Under-15 and Under-17 teams. He was then promoted to the Under-19 team. Playing for Delhi, Virat was the highest run-getter in the 2008-09 Vijay Hazare Trophy with 534 runs in 7 matches at an average of 89.00. 

After a successful U-19 World Cup campaign, Kohli made his first-class debut for Delhi in 2006-07 against Tamil Nadu. He was later drafted into the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad for the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League in 2008. Since then, Kohli has played for RCB in every edition of the IPL and was also their captain from 2013 to 2021.
