“Virat Loves To Be A Part Of The Game”, says Sanjay Manjrekar During A Recent Interaction

India’s star batter and former captain, Virat Kohli, with no doubt is the apple of everyone’s eye. Recently, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar opened up on his thoughts about Virat Kohli being a player. The cricketer turned commentator, during a recent interaction with sports journalist Vimal Kumar opined on the latter’s YouTube channel that Virat does not want power or leadership.

“Being with the team is more important”: Sanjay Manjrekar

Reckoning Virat Kohli for an upright approach, Sanjay asserted that Virat just enjoys being on the field.
He also compared him to legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, by saying that both these players did not want to hold on any leadership or control of the team and they played because they enjoyed being on the field.

He elaborated further on his statement and cited that Kohli has already been in the control of India’s captaincy for a long time so it is justifiable that there is no scope of any unfulfilled dream for him. He’s happy with his position and has already led India across many formats before Rohit Sharma took over team India’s captaincy in January 15, 2022.

Sanjay’s admiration for Kohli was indicative of the following words “He just wants to play and it looks like he enjoys being a part of the team. He captained the team for a very long time, so there is no scope for an unfulfilled dream. Being with the team, travelling with players, going to the ground, and being part of winning moments are more important to him than having power.”

Still a long way from breaking Sachin test record

Although Sanjay spoke about the similarities between Sachin and Kohli’s playing approach, he claimed that it is going to be a tough time for Virat to break the former’s test century record.

He added that Sachin has 51 hundreds, 17 more than what Sunil Gavaskar ended with. According to Sanjay, both Virat and Sachin are special because they have a lot of centuries in Test Cricket. However, he still feels that it would prove to be very difficult for Virat to break Sachin’s record.

Luckily, Virat is just 2 centuries away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI century record and the former will be now seen playing in the upcoming World Cup premiering on 5th October.
