“Want to keep one eye on the T20 World Cup”  Bangladesh’s coach Chandika Hathurusingha  Opened Up About ODI Win Against New Zealand and Upcoming T20 World Cup Goals

The T20 World Cup is coming soon. The tournament is scheduled to happen in June 2024. All teams are preparing hard. Before the big tournament, Bangladesh created a history. After the World Cup 2023, Bangladesh is playing an ODI and a T20 series against New Zealand. In the third match of the ODI series, Bangladesh registered their maiden ODI win against New Zealand on Kiwi soil. After that win, their confidence was boosted to a different level. After that win, Bangladesh’s coach Chandika Hathurusingha opened up about their T20 World Cup Goal. 

Bangladesh Defeated New Zealand:

After facing defeats in the first two ODI matches in the ODI series, Bangladesh bounced back in the third ODI. New Zealand secured the series win but Bangladesh stopped the whitewash scenario. In that match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first. While batting in the first innings, New Zealand’s batting line-up just collapsed. Bangladeshi bowlers were excellent. Shoriful Islam got three wickets in 22 runs. Tanzim Hasan Shakib and Soumya Sarkar both picked up three wickets each. The Kiwis got all out in just 98 runs. 

While chasing the easy target, Bangladesh lost their first wicket early. But then Anamul Haq and Najmul Hossain Shanto made a partnership. Haq got out after scoring 37 runs in 33 balls. Shanto scored a half-century and remained unbeaten on 51 runs. Bangladesh reached the target in 16 overs and won the match by 9 wickets.

This historic win of the Tigers boosted their confidence to a different level. The T20 World Cup is coming soon. Before that, this win is a positive sign for the team. After the ODI series, both teams will play a three-match T20 series. Before the T20 series started, Bangladesh’s coach opened up about the win. He said, “We haven’t won a T20 game over here. This was the same as one-day cricket but then we managed to win the last game. Certainly, it will help( ODI win over New Zealand at Napier) mentally when you have a good win always you feel good and because you have done something you want to repeat again no matter what the format is and that will give us confidence leading into the T20Is.”

Recently, the Bangladeshi squad has been performing excellently in the shortest format of cricket. They defeated teams like Afghanistan, England, and Ireland. They are looking forward to the upcoming T20 series win. All their performance will be beneficial for them for the T20 World Cup. They are Hustling hard before the T20 World Cup

Before the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh’s T20 league is tight. On this matter,  Hathurusingha said, “Plan-wise condition dictates. Lot of the plans we want to play at the same time we want to keep one eye on the T20 World Cup and so we are trying to get our plans right for that.” 

 Then he added, “We got 11 games now and then the BPL as well but this is a national team so we are trying to get our combination and give the players kind of roles that they will play during the World Cup and so that’s the plan.”

Soumaya Sarkar is in great form. He helped the team with his all-round performance. In the second match, he scored a century and in the last match, he picked up 3 wickets. The coach praised him. He said, “The second ODI was like a make-or-break moment for him. What we did we trusted him and gave him confidence and the whole team trusted him. That’s what I think he drove strength from.”
