Washington Freedom Captain Smith Named MVP of MLC Final, Reflects on Team’s Success and Trust in Process

On July 28, cricket enthusiasts enjoyed the thrilling final match of the Major League Cricket between Washington Freedom and San Francisco Unicords. The spectators experienced Washington Freedom’s dominant victory of 96 runs over the Unicorns. In the whole season, Steve Smith grabbed the limelight with his exciting performance. After the end of this thrilling season, he was awarded as the Most Valuable Player of the Final match. After that, the Aussie superstar opened up. 

On the Win:

After having an exciting season, Washington Freedom lifted the final trophy after defeating Sanfrancisco Unicorns by 96 runs. In this match, Washington Freedom skipper Steve Smith played an important role. His innings of 88 runs in just 52 balls while opening the innings was a huge boost for the team. Along with that, he made a match-winning partnership with Glenn Maxwell.

While talking about this, Smith said, “Nice to contribute, been a really good season. We have a really good bunch, had plenty of good times off the field. We just talked about trusting the process, just playing the game and not getting overawed by the moment.”

Praising the Squad:

Throughout the season, this team was unstoppable. After conquering the group stage, they won the qualifier match in a dominating win and qualified for the finals. But in the final match, the other players performed impressively. While bowling, Marco Jsnsen and Rachin Ravindra secured three wickets each. Andrew Taye secured two wickets. They dominated the opponent throughout the final match.

While praising the other player, captain Steve Smith said, “Really pleased for the boys. Some guys don’t get a game but they are surely part of the squad, and we try to make them feel included. Everyone in this group has been outstanding. Everyone stood up at different times, our batting was pretty strong and Marco maybe didn’t get to bat throughout the tournament.”

Praise for Head and Netravalkar:

In Travis Head and Saurabh Netravalkar, the team found two gems. Since the first match, these two players were outstanding. Travis Head ended up this season being the second-highest run-scorer with 336 runs in 9 innings. On the other hand, Netravalkar was outstanding. He has become the highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets in 7 innings.  

Smith Lauded their excellence. He said, “On the batting front, Travis was spectacular and he rightly won Player of the Tournament. With our bowling, I thought Netravalkar was outstanding and Lockie who missed today due to injury was outstanding as well. Everyone stood up for us.”
