Washington Sundar Reflects on Pitch Conditions After Strong Performance in Sri Lanka

After the first ODI match between India and Sri Lanka ended in a tie, both teams were eager to bounce back in the second match. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first. Along with India’s domination, the cricket enthusiasts enjoyed some fighting knocks from the Indian batters. But Washington Sundar’s excellence with the ball grabbed the limelight. After the first innings ended, Washington Sundar opened up. 

Sundar on Their Bowling Performance:

After ending the first match in a tie, Team India and Sri Lanka were all geared up and ready to play the next match.  In the 2nd ODI, Sri Lankan captain Charitha Asalanka won the toss and opted to bat first. While bowling in the first innings, Mohammed Siraj secured the first wicket in the very first delivery. 

Washington Sundar was excellent with the ball. After Nissanka’s dismissal, Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis made a crucial partnership. He broke their 74-run by dismissing Avishka Fernando. In this next over, he dismissed Kusal Mendis. In the 35th over, he dismissed Charitha Asalanka in 25 runs. 

After the first innings, Washington Sundar said, “Coming to Sri Lanka, there’s always bounce. The last game and today, there was a purchase off the wicket. Feel it’s slower today. We have done a decent job to restrict them. 240 is good to chase.”

On Their Bowling Performance Later On:

India gave a great start to the first innings. They secured the first wicket in the very first delivery. After that, they carried on their form. But after picking the the sixth wicket in 136 runs, they had to wait a little longer for the next scalp. At that time, they conceded to many in that crucial time. 

While talking about this, he said, “We have bowled well. From 150/6, it would have been better if we had given 20 run lesser. Looking forward to it (batting) and contribute to the team’s success.”
