The Indian cricket team has reached the Super Eight stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after winning 3 matches in the Group stage. It is safe to say that India’s victory in these matches can be credited to Rishabh Pant‘s terrific batting when the other big players got dismissed with low scores. Ahead of India‘s next match, Pakistan‘s Wasim Akram praises Rishabh Pant on “miraculous” recovery.
India is set to play a match against Afghanistan today at the Kensington Oval Stadium in Barbados. Team India was recently hailed by experts as the whole team showed up to a practice session which was not even mandatory.
Wasim Akram speaks on Pant’s comeback
Former Pakistan legendary player and current commentator Wasim Akram has showered praises on Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Pant was the highest scorer for his team in India vs Pakistan, a match that Wasim’s former team lost.
Wasim Akram however, does not seem to hold a grudge as he has hailed Pant’s speedy recovery after multiple injuries he sustained after a car crash in December 2022. Rishabh Pant has just restarted his career with full force in the IPL 2024 season.
“Pant ki performance dekh rahe hai. Miracle jo iss ladke ne kiya hai, dikhaya hai ki he is super human. Jis tragedy se woh wapas aaya hai. Jis tarah se uska accident, maine clips dekhe the, we were all worried in Pakistan [The kind of performance Pant is giving after that accident, he is proving he is a super human. We saw the clips and all were worried about him]. I was worried, actually maine tweet bhi kiya tha unke baare me.” Akram said in an Interview.
Akram had previously shared a tweet after Pant’s accident, expressing his concern for the young starlet.
“And he came back and he averaged 40 this year in IPL – 446 runs, strike rate of 155. Woh toh miracle bachcha hai,” Wasim added.
Rishabh Pant’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2024
Rishabh Pant has proven himself to be an important asset for the Indian cricket team as he has been constantly delivering good scores in the pitch. The middle order batsman is a great anchor for the team, especially seeing how openers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have failed to do well in the New York pitch.
Pant is leading as the top run-scorer for Team India after the group stages, having scored 96 runs in three innings with an average of 48. He had scored 42 runs in India vs Pakistan, the highest runs for India in that match.
Pant’s exceptional form was also seen in India vs Bangladesh match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium before the T20 World Cup 2024, when he scored a fifty and left the ground, giving the other players a chance to practice.
