Watch: Sarfaraz Khan’s Adamant DRS Call Secures Will Young’s Wicket in Second Test Against New Zealand

During the second Test against New Zealand, Sarfaraz Khan’s determination proved vital as he successfully convinced his teammates to use the Decision Review System (DRS). Sarfaraz’s relentlessness helped India claim the crucial wicket of Will Young, who was batting on 18 off 45 balls.

Sarfaraz’s Adamant DRS Call Pays Off

The incident occurred on the final ball of the 24th over. Ravichandran Ashwin bowled a length delivery that turned down leg. Young attempted to glance it away but misjudged the bounce, edging the ball off his glove into the hands of wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. Initially, the on-field umpires were not convinced by the appeal. Even Pant doubted whether there had been an edge. He suggested that India should not review the decision.

Despite the initial hesitation, Sarfaraz Khan was adamant. Positioned at short leg, he firmly believed he had seen Young glove the ball and urged Indian captain Rohit Sharma to take the review. His passionate advocacy caught the attention of Virat Kohli, who supported Sarfaraz’s call for a review. This collective insistence prompted Rohit Sharma to opt for DRS.

As UltraEdge confirmed, there was indeed a slight spike next to Young’s glove. This validated Sarfaraz’s conviction and led to Will Young’s dismissal. Commentator Simon Doull praised Sarfaraz’s determination. “Sarfaraz Khan and Virat Kohli were fully convinced it was out. Kudos to Sarfaraz for having such a great morning.”, Doull said.
