Watch: Sparks Fly as Rishabh Pant and Liton Das Engage in a Heated Argument in the First Session of the First Test

Tensions flared on the cricket field during the first Test match between India and Bangladesh as wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant found himself embroiled in a heated argument with Bangladesh’s Liton Das. The incident unfolded during the 16th over of Bangladesh’s innings, adding a dramatic twist to an already intense match.

The Incident Unfolds

On the third ball of the 16th over, Taskin Ahmed bowled to Rishabh Pant, who defended the ball, sending it directly to the fielder at gully. As Pant looked for a quick single, he was sent back, but the ball deflected off his pads and went wide of mid-on, allowing them to run.

This decision did not sit well with Litton Das, who expressed his displeasure at the batters taking a run after the deflection, noting that such runs are generally not taken in cricket.

As Pant continued to run frantically towards point, he found himself in the line of an overthrow. The ball appeared to have gone off his bat past the fielder, leading India to take an additional run. This further irritated Das, who confronted Pant about the situation. On the stump mic, Pant could be heard saying, “Usko feko na bhai, mujhe kyu mar rhe ho!” which translates to “Don’t throw it at me, why are you hitting me?”

Fortunately, both players quickly resumed their positions without any further escalation.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bowl first, citing moisture on the pitch that could benefit seamers. “I’ll like to bowl first. There’s moisture on the wicket and we want to make use of it,” Shanto stated confidently. His decision proved effective as pacer Hasan Mahmud made early breakthroughs by dismissing Indian captain Rohit Sharma (6 runs), Shubman Gill (0 runs), and Virat Kohli (6 runs), reducing India to a precarious 34 for 3 within just 10 overs.

Despite the early setbacks, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to stabilize India’s innings somewhat. By the time of writing, India had reached 75 for 3 after 19 overs, with Pant batting on 21 off 30 balls and Jaiswal contributing a solid 36 off 51.
