“We have been strict” Jay Shah’s Ravindra Jadeja Warning To Shreyas Iyer And Ishan Kishan

BCCI Chief Secretary Jay Shah’s acceptance of BCCI being stricter and his subtle warning for Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer after making Ravindra Jadeja pay despite injury.

On Thursday, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah highlighted the crucial role of proving one’s fitness in domestic cricket as a prerequisite for rejoining the Indian cricket team. During a press conference, Shah emphasized that players must showcase their form and physical readiness. This will be done through domestic performances to be considered for selection. He underscored the importance of domestic competitions in the selection process.

“We have been a little strict” Jay Shah’s warning

Discussing this requirement, Jay Shah recounted how he had contacted Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. This was during his knee injury in 2022, advising him to play in domestic matches. Jadeja responded by participating in Ranji Trophy games, which helped him regain form and fitness.

This approach allowed Jadeja to make a successful return to the Indian team. He was led by Rohit Sharma, demonstrating the importance of domestic performance for national selection. He further elaborated on the process. The emphasis is on the fact that any player who gets injured and leaves the team can only return after proving his fitness in domestic cricket.

“We have been a little strict, when Jadeja got injured, I was the one who called him & asked him to play a domestic game, it’s certain now, whoever gets injured & goes out – can only come into the Indian team after proving his fitness in domestic cricket”. Jay Shah said to TOI.

Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer to play in domestic tournaments

Mumbai Indians opener Ishan Kishan and Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer are not a part of the Indian team. The situation has been like this for them for a while now. To secure their return, both players will participate in domestic cricket.

Kishan will lead Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu tournament and play in the Duleep Trophy 2024. Iyer, on the other hand, will be leading Team D in the Duleep Trophy 2024. He will aim to make a strong comeback to the national side.
