South Africa and USA engaged in a neck to neck face off in match 41 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with both teams a part of the Super Eight. Both teams are in the Group 2 for super eight. Aiden Markram led South Africa defeats USA in ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match.
The match was held at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, as the USA leg of the competition came to an end. Losing team USA had won the toss and opted to bowl first.
South Africa ended up scoring 194/4 in the first innings while USA, an associate team fought well until the very last over and got restricted to 176/6, losing the match by 18 runs.
Aiden Markram on South Africa’s win
Speaking about the match, RSA captain Aiden Markram opened up about his feelings about the win in the post match segment. Markram praised USA player Andries Gous, who scored 80* off 47 balls.
“Gous played well. Made life tough for us. Couple of tidy overs from us and the margin could have been better. But lessons learnt. Nice start. At the half time, the wicket changed a little. It got slower.” Aiden said.
Accepting the fact that his team needed to learn from the match, he also added that some of the executions had led them down. He was also happy about Quinton de Kock getting his flow back in the game.
“We would have loved to finish with a bang. Couple of lessons to take. Big for us that Quinny got his flow. Everyone else just chipped in. Couple of overs we could have tidied upon. A few executions here and there might have let us down. The wind was strong so I feel the bowlers have done a decent job.” He added.
