“We’d be very open to do so” Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley Keen on Hosting the India-Pakistan Series

In the cricket world, there are no rivals like India and Pakistan. Their match set the example of the real thrill of a cricket match. But the cricket fans often get offended as both teams only lock horns in the ICC events. After 2012-13, they have not played any bilateral series. Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley expressed interest in hosting a bilateral series between India and Pakistan in Australia, also suggesting potential tri-series opportunities.

The India-Pakistan Bilateral Series Scenario:

The last time India and Pakistan played a Test match was in December 2007 in India. India’s last bilateral series in Pakistan occurred in 2006. Most recently, Pakistan was supposed to host the Asia Cup, but due to political tensions, India played their matches in Sri Lanka under a hybrid model.

India and Pakistan have not faced each other in a bilateral series since Pakistan’s tour of India in the 2012-13 season. The strained political relations between the two countries have prevented any bilateral series from happening. As a result, all their matches since then have taken place only during major ICC white-ball events.

Later he added, “To the extent that we’d be able to facilitate or help in that, we’d be very open to do so. However, the final decision rests with the respective cricket boards of India and Pakistan.”

On the Excitement on IND-PAK Match:

The excitement is high, especially after their recent match in the 2024 T20 World Cup in New York, where India won by six runs. Rohit Sharma’s team went on to lift the trophy, while Babar Azam’s Pakistan didn’t progress past the group stage. CA aims to bridge the gap between India and Pakistan by offering a neutral ground in Australia for their thrilling cricket encounters.

While talking about this, Hockley said, “Given the schedules, we haven’t had formal discussions in that regard, but we have said it on the record that we will be happy to host the India vs. Pakistan bilateral series.”
