After the huge victory against Pakistan, India registered another win against Sri Lanka. On Tuesday India was playing against Srilanka and snatched a 41-run win which led them to the finals. To qualify against India in finals Srilanka has to wait for further matches.
India won the toss and elected to bat first. Skipper Rohit Sharma started well and touched the milestone of completing 10,000 runs in his ODI career. Sharma scored a 50. Later Dunith Wellalage bowled him in 53 runs. After that India’s wickets were going down pretty quickly. Another opener Shubhman Gilln got out on 19 runs. Virat Kohli who scored an unbeaten century in the last match got out by scoring only 3 runs. Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul fought a little but weren’t able to do something big. Hardik and Jadeja got out quickly. However, India got all-out in 213 runs. Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalaga caught the eye. They took the wickets of Rohit, Kohli, Gill, Rahul, and Pandya.
In the second innings, Sri Lanka didn’t start well. They lost three wickets in the powerplay. Skipper Dasun Sanaka got out on 9. Dhananjaya De Silva and Wellalage fought for the team. De Silva got out on 41 and Wellalage remained 42 not out. Their innings summed up in 172 runs and India registered the win.
Sri Lanka may have lost the game but the all-rounder Wellalage caught attention. This young gun scored 42 not out in batting and took five wickets in just 40 runs. Despite the two teams, this was the most compact performance of the match. He also got the Man Of The Match award for this brave contribution.
