Bhuvneshwar Kumar shared his feelings of dismissing Sachin Tendulkar for a duck at a very tender age. Kumar recalls his Ranji Trophy days and Mohammad Kaif’s contribution behind that mind-blowing success.
Bhuvi recalls a special moment
Bhuvneshwar Kumar as a 19-year-old dismissed Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in a Ranji Trophy match in 2008-09. It was the final match between Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai and Bhuvi was representing Uttar Pradesh. It was a historical event as Sachin Tendulkar was not gone for a duck prior to that match while representing Mumbai. Tendulkar was dismissed by Bhuvi off his 14th delivery.
That changed Bhuvi’s career and made him famous overnight. Recalling the incident, he said in a webinar organised by GainAccess Sports & Entertainment and SportzPower, “It was a fortunate moment for me to get him out. I really cannot explain it in words. These are the kind of moments which you can just feel and cannot explain.”
Credit should also go to Kaif
Bhuvi also gave credit for the memorable moment of his life to former India and UP batsman Mohammad Kaif for suggesting an orthodox fielding position during the delivery. Bhuvneshwar Kumar explained, “It was a kind of cutter and it held its line till the last moment. There aren’t many bowlers in the world who are expert in that and I always say that the credit for the wicket also goes to Kaif. This is because he placed the fielder in a very awkward position.”
Bhuvi insisted that going by the grammar book generally there is no such fielding position and so the credit should be given to Kaif as well for improvising accordingly. Generally, there is no such position in the book. But the ball went to the fielder and he didn’t make any mistake with the catch. So I would say that the credit should also go to Kaif.”
