Uncle Percy has always carried a Sri Lankan flag with him supporting his country in each match. The legendary fan has entered his 80s now, due to which Sri Lanka Cricket made the decision to honour him by presenting the amount for his better health and wellbeing.

SLC Secretary: Percy’s contribution is immeasurable

Sri Lanka Cricket’s Secretary Mohan de Silva designated Percy as a tower of strength for the Sri Lankan cricket team.

The honorary Secretary stated “Percy’s contribution to the game of cricket in Sri Lanka as a cheerleader is immeasurable, and he has been a tower of strength for the players and to the game as a whole, and it was our turn to give back and look into his well being.”

Sri Lankan commentator Roshan Abeysinghe shared a picture of the duo where Mohan de Silva was seen presenting the cheque to Percy Abeysekara at the latter’s residence. Roshan quoted the image with the caption “Sri Lanka Cricket presented Rs. 5 Million to Mr. Percy Abeysekara to assist him in his wellbeing and maintenance of his wealth. Great gesture indeed.”
