Who’s a better finisher: Abd or Dhoni?

Abraham Benjamin de Villiers, former South African cricketer, whose batting and fielding excellence are much talked about amongst fans and cricket experts.

Who’s the best finisher?

In his show 360, during a Q&A round, Abd was asked to pick the name of the best finisher in cricket. To which he comically said, “obviously me”. However, he switched his answer to MS Dhoni quickly, “No, I would say definitely MS Dhoni. I love watching him play.”

Abd was in all praise of the former Indian Captain Dhoni. He highlighted the star studded career of wicket-keeper batter in international and franchise cricket. The iconic moment, which stays alive in hearts of every Indian fan, De Villiers also talked about the straight six during the world cup final in 2011.

Dhoni’s finishing ability, De Villiers said, spans all versions of the game.

While talking about Dhoni, the proteas star said, “There’s always been a big debate over who’s the best finisher – me or him? We can settle it now – I say MS is the best finisher. I am very happy to give credit where credit is due. For CSK in the T20s and IPL and for India in all formats of the game – just a fantastic person, just a fantastic man. A great role model for all cricket players around the world”

De Villiers encouraged aspiring young cricketers to follow Dhoni’s batting strategy while praising Dhoni’s accomplishments. Apart from the extravagant strokes, he stressed on Dhoni’s preference for traditional shots down the ground.

He explained, “I think especially of the kids and the youngsters – play more like him because he never played all these fancy shots. Play like MS, Once you have settled that, you can move on to the fancy shots.”
