Will James Anderson feature in the Ashes 2023? ECB clarify

Ahead of the eagerly awaited Ashes 2023, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued an official statement to provide an update on James Anderson‘s injuries. Notably, the ECB stated that the seasoned pacer injured his right groin with a  “mild strain” while playing for Lancashire against Somerset at Emirates Old Trafford.

After suffering from a groin injury, the 40-year-old was forced from the pitch and decided against risking continuing in the next three days of the LV= Insurance County Championship Division One match. Following scans on the pacer, England’s management determined it to be a “mild strain.”

The ECB also stated that Anderson’s injury will be further evaluated soon before the Ireland game, which is scheduled to take place at Lord’s on June 1st. On Sunday, May 14, the fourth day of the match between Lancashire and Somerset ended in a tie.

Ireland squad yet to be announced

The English team is also without the services of pacemaker Olly Stone due to a hamstring ailment, in addition to Anderson’s injury. In addition, 28-year-old Jofra Archer has a recurrent elbow ailment after returning home during the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The team will also evaluate the state of Archer’s injuries and may issue a statement to give an update.

The team for England’s lone Test against Ireland at Lord’s is expected to be announced by the selection committee in the coming days. Additionally, it is unclear if the ECB will take the chance of playing the seasoned pacer in the Test against the Irish team in light of the critical Ashes 2023.

The three Lions will focus on the five-match Test series against Australia, which will be played from June 16 to July 31, after the Ireland Test match. In order for Anderson to be ready for the pivotal series against the Australians, England will be hoping for a speedy recovery.
