“Without playing him, we won the games.” Pravin Amre Revealed Reason About Prithvi Shaw’s Exclusion from Playing XI

The IPL 2024 is coming close to the end date. With a few matches left in hand, the tournament is eyeing the play-off stage. The top two teams are already confirmed and the race for the race between five teams is going on for the last two positions of the top four. Delhi Capitals has already been knocked out of the tournament. Their opener Prithvi Shaw’s performance became a matter of discussion. Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre talked about it.

Prithvi Shaw’s Off Form:

Delhi Capitals has struggled with their form since the beginning. They kept losing consecutive matches in the initial stage. In the second phase, they started winning matches. But that was too late. In 14 matches, they registered 7 wins and 7 defeats. They ended the tournament with 14 points. Their qualification scenario is blurred. They need to depend on the others to qualify which is pretty impossible.

In this whole season, Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw’s performance caught eye. In the IPL 2024 season, 24-year-old Prithvi Shaw scored 198 runs across eight matches, averaging 24.75 with a strike rate of 163.63. Despite his efforts, he failed to score a half-century in his last five innings. Consequently, Shaw was dropped from the team, and Abhishek Porel stepped in seamlessly, quickly adapting to his new role and making an impact for Delhi Capitals.

Pravin Amre’s Thought on Prithvi Shaw:

Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre explained that Prithvi Shaw was excluded from the playing XI due to his poor form, while Abhishek Porel’s strong performance as an opener secured his spot. Amre highlighted Shaw’s struggles and Porel’s impressive run as the key reasons for the change in the lineup.

He said, “He [Shaw] was our retained played, and as you see, last four [of five] games he was also on the bench. But that’s the IPL. If you are not in form, you can’t [keep your place]. Ultimately, the pressure for the team is so much that every game is important and we have to win. And we had done that. Without playing him, we won the games. And whoever got the opportunity… I think Abishek grabbed the opportunities with both hands.”

Praising Abhishek Porel:

Pravin Amre praised Abhishek Porel for his brilliant 58 off 33 balls against LSG in DC’s last league match on May 14. Even after losing Jake Fraser-McGurk in the first over, Porel aggressively countered the opposition, reaching his half-century in just 21 balls. That young batter impressed everyone.

While praising him, Pravin Amre said, “What an innings [Porel] played [against LSG]. We saw Jake [Fraser-McGurk] getting out in the first over and even then we managed to get 73 runs in the powerplay. I think that’s what was so critical and the credit goes to Shai Hope and Porel for getting that 92-run partnership today.”
