Women’s Premier League 2024 Orange Cap: Updated After Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Gujarat Giants Match No. 5

The race to be the best in the WPL is going strong. All teams are giving their best to be the best. On February 25, Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns with Gujarat Giants at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. In the fifth match of the tournament, Smriti Mandhana and her team secured their second win of the tournament. 

Initially, After winning the toss RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana decided to bowl first. They have been dominating since the beginning. GG lost their first wicket in just 11 runs. Beth Mooney was dismissed by Renuka Singh in just 8 runs. Phoebe Litchfield scored 5 runs in 12 balls. Veda Krishnamurthy walked away after scoring 9 runs. Opener Harleen Deol scored 22 runs in 31 balls. That was the highest score of their side. 

To win the match, RCB needed to chase a target of 108 runs. The job was easy and the team chased it down successfully. Skipper Smriti Mandhana played a captain’s knock. She played an exciting knock of 43 runs in 27 balls. She smashed 8 boundaries and 1 over-boundary. She missed her well-deserved half-century. 

S. Meghana and Ellyse Perry carried the team toward the win. Meghana was unbeaten on 36 runs in 28 balls. She smashed 5 boundaries and 1 over-boundary. Ellyse Perry remained not out on 23 runs in 14 balls with 4 boundaries. They won the match by 4 wickets. With that, they become the new table topper.
