WPL 2023: Here’s what the Purple Cup race looks like post DC vs GG 

The race for the Purple cap has not seen much change after the match between the Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat Giants. Before the match between Delhi Capitals Women and Gujarat Giants, the list of leading wicket-takers in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 was dominated by Saika Ishaque with 12 wickets, followed by Hayley Matthews with 10 wickets, Sophie Ecclestone with 9 wickets, and Shikha Pandey and Amelia Kerr with 8 wickets each. 

Gardener Shines with the ball

After the match, there has been no change in the top three spots. However, Ashleigh Gardner, Ashleigh Gardner has made a significant move up the leaderboard. Gardener, who has finally found her feet in the WPL after a surprisingly slow start. In the match against the Delhi Capitals, Gardner had figures of 2-19, taking her wickets tally to nine and claiming the fourth spot on the list of highest wicket-takers. She is now level with Sophie Ecclestone, who has also taken nine wickets so far. Gardner’s impressive form with the ball has pushed Shikha Pandey down to the fifth spot and Amelia Kerr to the sixth. 

Garth coming back strong

Kim Garth, the Australian seamer, played a crucial role in turning the game around the Delhi vs Gujarat game with a potent spell that included the wickets of Jemimah Rodrigues and Arundathi Reddy. She finished with figures of 2/18 and is now sixth on the list of highest wicket-takers with eight scalps to her name. Despite her impressive performance, Garth is miles away from getting to the first spot. 

Issy Wong continues to be the most economical bowler in the tournament with an economy rate of 5.18. However, Delhi’s Marizane Kapp has bowled the most dot balls so far (81). Purple cap holder Saika Ishaque has the best bowling average up until now (8.58).
