Delhi Capitals defeated UP Warriorz by 42 runs on Tuesday at the DY Patil Stadium to earn their second victory in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023. Meg Lanning, the captain of Delhi, emerged as the team’s star performer after slamming a 42-ball 70 after being given the opportunity to bat first. This was another back-to-back impressive performance from the Australian skipper. Delhi scored a mammoth total of 211 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs. In response, UP had a respectable start but continued to lose wickets often, only managing 169/5 in 20 overs.
Tahila McGrath put up a strong fight, scoring an unbroken 90 from 50 balls, the greatest individual total in the WPL to date. Yet, she received no assistance from her teammates. Jess Jonassen was awarded the man of the match award for her all-round performance with ball and bat. She scored 20 balls 42 and took 3 wickets.
After defeating Gujarat Titans in their previous match, this was UP’s first loss in the WPL.

They won both their match convincingly and thus have a very high net run rate of +5.185. Delhi beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first match by a whopping margin of 60 runs. With this win, there is a huge difference created between the top 2 and the remaining 3 matches.
UP Warriorz won their first match in a last-over thriller against Gujarat Giants. With a loss in today’s match by 42 runs, their net run rate was affected badly. They are now third in the points table having won one and lost one match out of their two. They have a run rate of -0.864. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants is at third and fourth place respectively.
