The purple-cap-wearing Saika Ishaque extended her lead yesterday in the WPL Purple Cap standings by dismissing Meg Lanning, Shafali Verma, and Jemimah Rodrigues, three of DC’s key batswomen. Her three overs resulted in final figures of 3-13, earning her the title of Player of the Match.
With 9 wickets under her belt, Saika Ishaque is still in first place, but English sensation Sophie Ecclestone has moved up to the second place, knocking Hayley Matthews, Nara Norris, and Kim Garth down a spot. Ishaque is now closely pursued by Ecclestone, who has 7 wickets.
In addition to her remarkable performance in the battle for the Orange Cap, Hayley Matthews is also vying for the Purple Cap. Sophie Ecclestone, who got four wickets today against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, passed her yesterday when she took three wickets for the second straight game. Matthews is not at third place behind Sophue Ecclestone.
In her previous encounter, Sophie Ecclestone did not bowl as effectively in the powerplay as she normally does because of the flatness of the surface. After the break, she promptly resumed bowling and recorded a wicket in her second over. While not having the finest overall results, she was the most expensive bowler for the UP Warriorz, finishing with scores of 1-41. After her performance, she moves up to position 7 in the WPL Purple Cap standings. She bounced back in style today and rose to the second position.
After 8 overs, they were 72/1 and were poised for a large total. But, RCB lost their composure and were dismissed for 138 after just going through the first 20 overs. Ecclestone started the collapse by overturning the dangerous Sophie Devine, and when Sharma and Ecclestone continued to bowl brilliantly, the wickets just kept falling. Given her performance in this tournament, Heather Knight’s elimination was a significant setback as well. Ellyse Perry put up a solid fifty-run performance but was slowed down by the rapid wicket-taking, finally succumbing to a poor slog-sweep during the final overs.
Deepti Sharma’s three wicket haul in the match saw her rise to the top 5 for the first time. She is at the fifth position with 5 wickets in the tournament. She took the wickets of Perry, Kanika Ahuja, and Erin Burns.
