In the first season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, UP Warriorz, and Royal Challengers Bangalore will compete for the championship. Although the names of the Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore have all gained popularity in the IPL, only MI has a history of winning championships. On March 4, they played their season opener at the DY Patil Stadium against the Gujarat Giants. On March 5, they took on DC at the Brabourne Stadium.
The Delhi Capitals thrashed Gujarat Giants by 10 wickets on Saturday at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, earning their third victory. Shafali Verma’s blistering 28-ball 76 and Marizanne Kapp’s five-wicket haul (5/14) enabled DC to reach their 106 total in only 7.1 overs.
After their loss to the Mumbai Indians, the Delhi Capitals have roared back. They had two outstanding individual performances: Shafali Verma with the bat and Marizanne Kapp with the ball. Gujarat Giants just lacked any solutions. With the help of Pandey’s three-wicket haul and Marizanne Kapp’s outstanding five-wicket haul, Delhi Capitals Women were able to hold their opponents to a meager score of 105. With the new ball, Kapp was simply brilliant as she quickly took down the opponents with her sharp nip-backers. Lanning gave her a lengthy spell, and Kapp made sure to get her fifth wicket in her last over. The team total passed the 100-run mark thanks to efforts from Harleen, Wareham, and Garth. With the Capitals’ batting order, it was not going to be sufficient.
Chasing a modest total, Shafali Verma finished undefeated on 76 off 28 balls. The target wasn’t very large, to begin with, but DC destroyed it in only 7.1 overs thanks to Shafali, who reached 50 off just 19 balls before finding an even higher gear after reaching the mark. The young Indian opener struck some very fantastic balls. Skipper Lanning only had to contribute 21 runs out of the total. Despite Sneh Rana’s assertions to the contrary, Gujarat may be regretting their choice to bat first on a seaming pitch since she made the ball talk and ripped through them.
