WPL 2024: Alyssa Healy tackles pitch-invader during Match 6 against MI-W

UP Warriorz secured their first victory in the Women’s Premier League 2024 by defeating defending champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in Match 6 on February 28 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Kiran Navgire starred with the bat for UP, scoring a rapid half-century off 25 balls, eventually earning the Player of the Match award.

During the match, a pitch invader disrupted play before the last ball of Mumbai Indians’ innings. The fan breached security and ran onto the pitch, but his attempt was quickly thwarted by UP Captain Alyssa Healy. Healy managed to stop the fan before security personnel escorted him off the field.

In the absence of regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur and fast bowler Shabnim Ismail, Mumbai Indians brought in Issy Wong and Humaira Kazi as replacements, with Nat Sciver-Brunt taking over the captaincy. UP replaced Gouher Sultana with Anjali Sarvani.

Mumbai Indians got off to a good start with openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews adding 50 runs for the first wicket. Matthews top-scored with 55 off 47 balls. In response, UP openers Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire dominated, adding 94 runs for the first wicket. Grace Harris and Deepti Sharma then guided UP to victory with an unbeaten 65-run stand.
