This feat was completed on the morning of the second day in the second Test between India and New Zealand, where Jaiswal needed only 17 runs to cross the threshold. Breaking Records in Just Over a Year
Since making his Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023, Jaiswal has continued to make headlines with his impressive performances. With a steady start against South Africa in early January, he scored 28 runs in a short Cape Town Test. However, Jaiswal truly hit his stride in the series against England, amassing 712 runs over five Tests. His consistency helped India stay competitive against one of their toughest opponents.
During the recent Test series against Bangladesh, Jaiswal maintained his form, finishing as India’s highest run-scorer with 189 runs across four innings. His 2024 journey reached new heights during the Kanpur Test, where he top-scored in both innings, leading India to a comfortable seven-wicket victory.
Jaiswal Joins Joe Root in Exclusive Club
With 1000 runs in 2024, Jaiswal joins England’s Joe Root, who currently leads the year’s Test run-scoring chart with 1248 runs. Jaiswal’s remarkable form places him as only the second batter worldwide to cross the 1000-run mark in Tests this year. He joins Root and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis, who sits at third with 943 runs, in what has been a year dominated by high-quality batting performances.
