Yashasvi Jaiswal, the standout Indian batter who gained prominence in international cricket following his debut against the West Indies last year, recently lauded India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir. Jaiswal praised Gambhir for his role in nurturing players’ natural abilities. He highlighted how the former Indian opener’s guidance helps players express their true potential, emphasizing the positive impact Gambhir has had on his and others’ performances on the field.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Talked About Coach Gautam Gambhir:
Jaiswal stated that Gautam Gambhir fully supports players, which significantly aids them in showcasing their natural abilities. He emphasized that this unwavering backing from Gambhir allows players to perform authentically and confidently, enhancing their overall game.
He said, “ Yes, I have spoken with him during the Sri Lanka series. He really backed us, saying just go out and play freely and enjoy the game, and we will be with you. It gives us a lot of confidence and helps us to play fearlessly. “
Jaiswal, set to play a crucial role for India in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, praised his opening partner and Indian captain, Rohit Sharma. He described it as an extraordinary experience to bat alongside Sharma. Additionally, he also acknowledged the valuable lessons he’s learned from Gambhir, highlighting how these insights have significantly influenced his approach to the game.
He added, “ It is an incredible experience whenever I go out and bat with him. He has shared his experiences with me. I think the way he controls the game and understands the wicket, it is spot on, and there are a lot of things (to learn from him). You can learn from him things like adjusting your batting to seaming or turning tracks or changing your batting when a wicket or two fall.”
He noted that over the past year, he has gained a much deeper understanding of his own game. This increased self-awareness has been pivotal in refining his performance and approach on the field.
He concluded, “ Now, I can see a lot of scenarios and shift my game accordingly for the team and read the situations. I think these are very important for me in the last one year. When I was playing domestic cricket, I was not aware of many things. But since I started playing international cricket, the communication and the reading of the game have improved a lot. I just want to keep learning.”
The Beginning of Gambhir Era:
Gautam Gambhir took over as India’s head coach on July 9, 2024, following Rahul Dravid’s departure in June. In his initial role, Gambhir led India to a clean sweep over Sri Lanka in a T20I series. However, the team faced an unexpected setback in the three-match ODI series held in Colombo, where they were defeated by Charith Asalanka’s side. Despite the T20I success, the ODI loss highlighted the challenges ahead for Gambhir in his new coaching role.
