Zaheer Khan, the former Indian cricketer, has selected the four seamers he believes should make the cut for India’s squad in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. Notably, his choices exclude Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan, who were part of the Indian squad for the T20I series against Afghanistan.
In a recent discussion on Colors Cineplex, Zaheer Khan revealed his picks for the seamers in India’s T20 World Cup squad. He named Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Shami as his preferred choices for the tournament.
Zaheer emphasized the importance of Bumrah and Siraj, stating, “I feel you will see (Jasprit) Bumrah and (Mohammed) Siraj for sure.” He further highlighted Arshdeep Singh’s inclusion, noting, “After that, Arshdeep (Singh), you will get a slight variation because he is a left-armer. He bowls good yorkers. So that is an added advantage.”
Regarding Mohammed Shami, Zaheer Khan believes he could be an X-factor for the Indian team at the global event, stating, “Then I believe (Mohammed) Shami because if he is fit and available, he can be an X-factor option for you during the World Cup.”
It’s worth noting that Bumrah and Siraj were rested for the T20I series against Afghanistan, while Shami was unavailable due to an ankle injury. However, the trio formed a formidable seam-bowling attack during India’s run to the final of the previous year’s ODI World Cup.
Pragyan Ojha, the former Indian left-arm spinner, echoed Zaheer Khan’s sentiments, agreeing that Bumrah, Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh should be part of India’s seam-bowling options for the T20 World Cup. Ojha also supported the inclusion of Mohammed Shami, citing his exceptional performances in recent tournaments.
Shami was the highest wicket-taker at the 2023 ODI World Cup and also won the Purple Cap in the IPL 2023 season, showcasing his prowess in the shortest format of the game.
As the T20 World Cup approaches, the selection of seamers will be crucial for India, and Zaheer Khan’s insights provide valuable perspective on the team’s potential choices.
