India Set to Give Youngsters a Chance Against Zimbabwe
With the ICC T20 World Cup ongoing, whispers are emerging regarding India’s squad for the subsequent T20I series against Zimbabwe. According to sources, the BCCI is likely to hand call-ups to a trio of exciting young talents – Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Mayank Yadav.
The five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe kicks off on July 6th in Harare, following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup. These matches are expected to see a significant number of senior Indian players being rested, paving the way for fresh faces to showcase their abilities on the international stage.
IPL Performances Earn Recognition
The three youngsters in contention all impressed during the recently concluded IPL season.
- Abhishek Sharma: The Sunrisers Hyderabad opener amassed a commendable 484 runs in 16 matches at an average of 32.26 and a blistering strike rate of 204.31. His tally included three half-centuries, with a top score of 75*. Sharma’s ability to smash 42 sixes throughout the season made him a key contributor to Hyderabad reaching the IPL final. His bowling capabilities, particularly his spin, add another dimension to his skillset.
- Riyan Parag: Another exciting young all-rounder, Parag enjoyed a breakout season with the Rajasthan Royals. Promoted to the crucial number four position in the batting order, he repaid the faith shown in him by accumulating 573 runs in 16 matches at an impressive average of 52.09. Parag’s strike rate of over 149 and four half-centuries, including a top score of 84*, were instrumental in guiding Rajasthan Royals to the playoffs. His ability to contribute with valuable overs of spin bowling further strengthens his case for national selection.
- Mayank Yadav: While featuring in just four matches for the Lucknow Super Giants due to injuries, Yadav left a lasting impression. He scalped seven wickets at a phenomenal average of 12.14 and an economical rate of 6.98. His best bowling figures of 3/14 showcased his raw pace, with the ability to consistently touch the 150 kmph mark. Experts and fans alike were impressed by Yadav’s control over line and length during his limited outings.
Focus Now Shifts to T20 World Cup
While call-ups for the Zimbabwe series remain unconfirmed, the focus for all three players, as well as the entire Indian team, remains firmly on the ongoing T20 World Cup.
