Alex Hartley To Become First Woman Spin Bowling Coach For the Multan Sultans

Breaking the stereotypes that only a man can be a men’s coach, Alex Hartley is all set to become the first woman coach for a men’s team with a PSL job. She has been appointed as the spin bowling specialist by the Multan Sultans which is a Pakistan Super League team. Lately, opposite genders training each other in the field of cricket has been a rising trend and this latest development is an example in that effect.

Who is Alex Hartley?

Also stood as a 2017 World Cup winner and a former England spinner, Alex Hartley will be the first Lady coach to work in a professional men’s game. England’s Adil Rashid who is currently in India for the ongoing 2023 World Cup, represented Multan Sultans in the last edition of the Pakistan Super League. If by any chance, the leg-spinner earns a chance to represent the team again, Alex will be working with Adil assuming the role of a coach.

Supporting gender equality

The Managing Director of the Multan Sultans, Ali Tareen advocated the importance of breaking barriers and promoting gender equality in the sport of Cricket. Talking about equal roles of men and women, Tareen said “One crucial aspect of this structural development is our unwavering focus on gender equity throughout the organisation. We take great pride in being guided by one of the world’s first female general managers in franchise cricket. He further went on saying that it is important to include women coaches in professional teams. “At the Sultans, women coaches have been an integral part of our youth cricket academies for many years now, making their inclusion in our team a seamless and welcomed evolution.”

Other than Alex Cartley, earlier in 2021, Sarah Taylor, the former England women’s player was appointed as a wicket-keeping coach and has worked for several other teams.
